Director Harmony Korine may or may not be the latest “enfant dreadful,” but he’s certainly given us something to deem about with “Gummo.” He’s given us about 90 minutes of in-your-face immersion into a culture that most of us only watch in “Cops” and other “reality” programs that deal with the hopeless, hapless people who form up the bottom strata of White America.

We suddenly collect ourselves immersed in a culture where single moms huff glue with their teenage sons and their buddies and where boys hunt neighborhood cats with BB guns and sell the carcasses to a guy who supplies meat to Chinese restaurants. As the account develops, we learn the boys exercise their cat money on glue and the services of a young prostitute who looks like Anna Nicole Smith with a lobotomy.

This movie is like a tell smash – at once horrifying and mesmerizing.

I disagree with an earlier reviewer who saw “Gummo” as an wicked fraction of elitism.

I contemplate that charge misses the point. This is not some arrogant exposé of the quaint ways of the unpleasant, it’s a 90-minute tour of the self-perpetuating Culture of Stupidity that can be found on the fringes of every city and town in America. These are people who turn unpleasant choices into a blueprint of life because that’s what their parents did and their parents before them. Yes, Korine packs the cloak with enough geeks and freaks to populate a dozen circus sideshows, but his point is well taken. This is a strata of society that Hollywood ignores, except for the occasional cameo role in films like “Deliverance.” It’s a vision of a reality that we gawk instantly from our day-to-day experience, but which is carefully filtered out of the mass media.

Whether Korine has talent or promise in any convential sense of the words remains to be seen, but he’s created a new film that is destined to become a cult classic.

But, as an earlier reviewer famous, this is not a suited date night substitute for “Casablanca” or “The Sound of Music.”

If you represent this film to people, and train them you like it, they’ll contemplate you’re insane and skittish. It’s a documentary/collage like film about white trash. Some advertisements for the film have tried to picture it as a comedy, but it isn’t. It’s mostly vignettes from the town of Xenia, Ohio, where white trash and their values reign supreme. Cat killers (no cats were actually harmed), paying for sex with mentally handicapped people, white trash beating up chairs, and paint huffing are some of the attractions you’ll recognize here. But Korine edits and films it in, dare I say, an artistic and gripping draw. There is something going on here. This was an independent movie, but most indie movies are honest quirky films that aren’t that different than what mainstream Hollywood gives us. This is a trusty independent film. Korine films in 8mm, video, 16mm, and 35mm. He doesn’t seem involved in crossover appeal with his work. He captures the despair and nihilism of these white trash denziens. And some of the images stick in your mind, like the kid taking a bath at the extinguish eating spaghetti in a filthy tub. Korine has made only 2 features, but they are both certainly worth watching, and quite pretty, in their contain, queer draw. This is a very worthy film….

This second box region will finally give us a few answers on the questions of what happened with Kazuma during those years after he was banished by the Kannagi clan and his personal war against the mysterious shadow group called Pandemonium. There are going to also be a few more light-hearted episodes with this area as well, one has Ayano, Ren, and Kazuma going to an amusement park on a seemingly considerable job but there’s a tiny more to it than that especially with the naughty plots of Ayano’s father. There will also be fresh questions opened up about Kazuma’s past as well in this state and hopefully the makers of this stout demonstrate will release another season later on. The reveal cast for the Japanese actors/actresses were of course satisfactory and the cast for the English boom overs that Funimation got were also very extraordinary for their character roles, if there’s any complaint about this series that I can consider of than it’s probably that it seemed to short you truly wish that there were more than honest 24 episodes for this series..

A considerable film noir classic, “Chinatown” finally gets the deluxe treatment it deserves on DVD. While the previous edition looked quite sterling (and had some nice interviews), this edition features a sharper, more brilliant transfer. Additionally, we glean a three fragment documentary on the making of the movie focusing on the preproduction, filming and impact of the film with Jack Nicholson, Roman Polanski, Robert Evans and writer Robert Towne participating. Sadly, Faye Dunaway doesn’t appear in any of the extras. I had hoped for a commentary track (even one cobbled together of various interviews from the entire surviving cast and production crew) and the discovery of any deleted scenes for this edition but neither is included.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chinatown! Click Here

The latest edition of “Chinatown” has noteworthy better disagreement, a cleaner, richer looking transfer that more accurately captures a pristine theatrical presentation of the film. The anamorphic transfer has a bit more information on the sides than in the previous edition suggesting that it was cropped slightly differently (and I can’t say which is truer to the current this edition or the previous one) . Audio features the same 5.1 Dolby Digital mix that was a highlight of the first edition. We also pick up a cleaned up current mono soundtrack for purists. Both sound very agreeable with the 5.1 featuring a nice dynamic mix.

This fresh edition is a marked improvement over the previous DVD version and highly recommended.

“Water is the life blood of every community.” With this statement, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s website begins its biography of William Mulholland, the staunch life model of two of this movie’s characters, water department chief Hollis Mulwray (an positive play on words) and water tycoon Noah Atrocious. And indeed water, the access to it and the wealth it provides, is what drives everything and everybody in this movie residence in the ever-thirsty Los Angeles of the first decades of this century, a budding assert town on the brink of victory or decay … and whether it will be one or th other depends on the city’s ongoing access to drinking water.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Chinatown! Click Here

“Chinatown”’s yarn is based on William Mulholland’s greatest coup; the construction of the Owen Valley aqueduct which provided Los Angeles with a accurate source of drinking water but also entailed a lot of controversy. Splitting Mulholland’s complex real-life persona into two fictional characters (the ample Mulwray who thinks that water should belong to the people and who refuses to authorize an unsavory fresh dam construction project and the greedy, unscrupulous Inappropriate who will exhaust *any* means to arrive his personal fortune) creates the movie’s one indispensable gloomy and white conflict … other than this, the predominant shades are those of gray.

Into the wars raging around L.A.’s water supply, private explore Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) is unwittingly thrown when a woman introducing herself as Hollis Mulwray’s wife asks him to investigate her husband’s alleged infidelity. Before he realizes what is going on he is drawn into a web of treachery and treason, and fatally attracted to the trusty Mrs. Mulwray (Faye Dunaway), Noah Evil (John Huston) ’s daughter. Soon reaching the conclusion that he has been aged, he refuses to descend the investigation, and instead decides to dig his map to the source of the scheming he has witnessed – the classical film noir setup.

To say that this movie is one of the best examples of the genre ever made is stating the certain … actually, it borders on being superfluous. Few other films are as tightly acted, scripted and directed, from Jack Nicholson’s dapper-dressed, dogged Jake Gittes, who like any marvelous noir detective is not half as hard boiled as he would have us acquire, to Faye Dunaway’s seductive and sunless Evelyn Mulray, John Huston’s cold-blooded and dismal Noah Execrable, Roman Polanski’s brooding direction and Robert Towne’s award-winning hide play, so tubby of memorable lines and the classical noir gumshoe dialogue, yet far more than unprejudiced a well-done copy. And throughout it all, there that understanding of Chinatown – that state where you do as limited as possible, and where if you try to succor someone, you’re likely going to effect double definite they’re getting injure.

“Chinatown” was Roman Polanski’s return to Hollywood, five years after his wife (Sharon Tate) had been one of the victims of the Manson gang. Polanski and Towne fought hard whether the movie should have a overjoyed ending or not. Polanski won, studio politics were edifying at the time, and the version we all know was produced. Towne later admitted that Polanski had been right; and in fact, it is hard to imagine what kind of ecstatic ending would have worked with the movie at all – too deep-rooted are the conflicts presented, none of which lends itself to an easy solution. Unfortunately, being released the same year as “The Godfather II” robbed “Chinatown” distinguished of the Academy Award attention it would have deserved; of 11 nominations (best movie, best actor – Jack Nicholson -, best actress – Faye Dunaway -, best director Roman Polanski, best screenplay – Robert Towne -, best modern catch – Jerry Goldsmith -, best cinematography, and others), the movie only won the Oscar for Towne’s screenplay. Generations of fans, however, have long since recognized that “Chinatown” is a milestone in the history of the film noir and in the professional history of its participants, and one of Hollywood’s finest hours.

Al Goldstein created a huge present in “Midnight Blue.” No matter what you mediate about Al, he allowed porn stars to be themselves on the air. This demonstrate has clips from a variety of his episodes. The highlight of this collection is the interviews with Marilyn Chambers. I always fetch a kick out of the customary Ivory Snow gal. Annie Sprinkle is also a delight.

But what I pick up myself more glued to is the ads for various swing clubs and porn theaters plus an escort service. I wouldn’t mind sitting through these ads during breaks in Seinfeld. Why doesn’t Plato’s Retreat advertise during the Superbowl? And who knew strip clubs succor then had buffets?

This is principal viewing for anyone who enjoys vintage adult entertainment.

I must utter you, if you want to leer a vintage local Current York adult cable point to, this volume is for you. Midnight Blue was a leased access program on Manhattan Cable TV’s Channel J aid in the `70’s. I was very disappointed with the first volume, The Deep Throat Collection, because of the annoying factoids popping up on the conceal, thus, ruining the entire DVD itself.

I am very gay to represent that the pop ups are now an extra. That contrivance you can disable it and finally savor the prove in the distinct. Honestly, Novel York After Midnight and Blue Underground should redo and reissue the first volume because of that dilemma.

I am disappointed of the lack of the demonstrate inaugurate of each segment. Volume 1, The Deep Throat Collection, added the recent 1975 – 1976 opens to each of the exhibit segments, but this volume didn’t and they should because that was a piece of Midnight Blue as well. Like people have said this is indeed a unlit series not for young children at all but truly meant for adults as most can probably lisp. The series is mostly dealing with people who have grudges against someone else be they truly tremendous or simply petty it doesn’t really matter to Ai Enma also known as the Hell Girl. Ai Enma has a website that if found by someone will give them the opportunity to avenge themselves on someone they feel has wronged them or their family, the person who wishes to curse the person who wronged them makes a pact with Enma. Enma will indeed send the cursed person to Hell for eternal punishment but the cost to the one who makes the bargain is fair as cleave, he or she after their life is over will also be cursed to Hell as punishment for making the bargain and going through with it. The series shows with each episode situations that have both the feeling that “Yes this person does indeed deserve to go to Hell”, but other situations expose us that while it may seem harsh that it’s for the most portion Life, meaning there are situations of fair standard school bullying and taunting, and so the inquire for the viewer is do some of these people deserve their consignment into Hell for some of these crimes. I also like how they prove after the person has done the deed and they witness the aftermath they have to wonder if what they have done is truly worth it and if it’s made their life better like they belief it would. The represent is nice and distinct and as always with Funimation the cast for both the English and Japanese cast did incredibly well. So if you like the sad animes like Hellsing or Vampire D this is another series that’s worth you interest and time…

It has been a while since I have first plot eyes on this series and must I say it’s truly gorgeous, the art, the music, and characters you advance across. It has a mix of a bit of feudal japan and current day japan. I have seen both seasons of Hell Girl and working on the third. If you treasure a bit of apprehension, fantasy, and suspense then this series is incredible for you.

This Amazon reviewer guy obviously has no clue about what this record is actually about, or why the film format is really groundbreaking for Native American film and DOES work, wonderfully. It really isn’t a typical Hallmark film. He thinks the special effects are cheesy because he doesn’t understand these stories that are being told… and missed the humor of a lot of it. It’s not about “myths” in the arrangement that White people ogle myths. It’s about how account is life.

THIS IS NOT A CHEESY HALLMARK MOVIE. It’s really artfully done and is not a typical TV movie about why mainstream culture should loooove those Arresting and Spiritual Native Americans. I hope this film won’t net labeled as a Nice Family Film About Myths. The only reason it’s a TV movie by Hallmark is probably because this was the only map to fund such a high-budget Native film. What’s too poor about that is that it won’t procure seen by the independent/art film crowd who might give it the awards that it deserves.

Honestly, not to offend anyone, but I mediate that this film wasn’t made for White people, it’s really more for Native people who will understand its importance. It’s kind of how there are a lot of critical films about White people/white american culture FOR White people who fraction the culture of the characters that other people can study and either misunderstand (due to lack of notion of white american culture) or try to belief it in its context and understand the white perspective.

In the same procedure, this film needs to be seen in its absorb context, apart from the fact that it was shown on TV and laced with commercials aimed at mainstream America, or that its being sold as a Hallmark movie. A lot of these stories told by the Grandfather are becoming less and less told, and now are preserved for the younger generations in a draw that tranquil respects the ‘oral tradition’ that they near from. I hope that eventually the film will be treated more seriously, and that all those serious film critic-types will give it more attention and peruse all the creative and profound things that are going on in the structure and residence and cinematography.

ABC and Hallmark should be commended highly for putting forth this outstanding program. Dreamkeeper is absolutely shiny in every possible scheme. Production, direction, writing, acting, effects, cinematography, etc… everything was mighty. It was racy, intelligent and educational all at once. I cannot remove ever being so moved by ANYTHING on TV. This display has restored my faith in television programming, and I know many other people feel the same scheme. I hadn’t seen or heard any advertising about Dreamkeeper but unprejudiced came across it as I was channel-surfing; it stopped me in my tracks and kept me enraptured throughout the conclusion last night. Fantastic.

This is a must-own along with any possible tie-ins, i.e. resource & educational materials, as the swear is of such a high caliber.

I hope the “head honchos” over at ABC and Hallmark earn this message and know how worthy this program meant to alot of people.

Episode 206- THE RING OF Apprehension (with short: THE PHANTOM CREEPS PT 3)

This black-and-white (b/w) 1962 “thriller” features the largest group of the oldest medical school students ever found at one time in any US college. After the “thrilling” opening in which a man endlessly searches for his cat, “Puma”, the film unfolds a less-than-suspenseful fable about a mettlesome medical student who must near to grips with the one thing that does frighten him. The film stars no one, miniature happens, the comical relief in the film revolves around cheap shots taken at an overweight couple, and the unpleasant climax is more likely to induce sleep paralysis than alarm paralysis. Why do the students all behave like undergraduates when this is post-graduate medical school? Who cares, the whole thing is so inept, it’s hilarious! The MST3K host segments are all good amusing, particularly the “worn school sketch” and the sketch recreating the autopsy scene from the film. The short is another installment of Phantom Creeps with Bela Lugosi and the MST3K writers collect lots of substantial comedy mileage out of that one. This is another Enormous episode from legendarily hilarious season 2. Don’t miss it!

Episode 409- THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN (with short: UNDERSEA KINGDOM PT 2) Lon Chaney, Jr. is one of those movie greats that didn’t always say no when offered a less than stellar role, especially it seems as available parts dried up for him as he got older. This 1956 film is one he probably should have turned down unless he was really desperate for the paycheck, but we wait on from his choice to appear in this film as it is quite humorous all on its occupy. Chaney plays “The Butcher”, an executed thug who ends up soundless but not quite listless after his execution. Most of the film involves him silently seeking revenge on those who sent him to death row, with lots of really unusual close-ups of his eyes. Joel and the `Bots hammer this film mercilessly in a non-stop manner with one immense joke after another; it’s honest terrific! The short, Undersea Kingdom portion 2 with Ray “Rupture” Corrigan, is also “ROTHLOL” comic.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 11! Click Here

Episode 414- TORMENTED

This 1960 b/w film is a Bert I. Gordon “classic” about, Tom Stewart, a guy who doesn’t attach his mature girlfriend from an accidental fatal tumble after she threatens to mess up his wedding plans to a Fresh England high society girl. Throughout the rest of the film he is “alarmed” by her ghost and driven to the brink of madness and more assassinate. The haunting scenes could not alarm a slight child, but they are hilariously cheesy fun to peer. Is a ghost really haunting Tom or is his conscience unbiased getting to him? You’ll be laughing too hard to care mighty about that! You’ll also be reciting, “Tom Stewart killed me, Tom Stewart killed me” like a litany after the credits roll.

Episode 1011- HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND

This 1962 b/w film is a German-Yugoslav co-production and the dialogue dubbing adds considerable to the hilarity of this inept film. A group of female dancers is stranded on an island with only a few men and lots of excuses to display as great skin as possible without any proper nudity. The scantily clad dazzling girls seem to be most of the reason this film got made and mostly what the film’s makers expected would glean people to behold it. The giant spiders and the “horrific” results of their bite are about the poorest special effects and make-up one could put a question to from a film regardless of what year it was made. This is a very strong episode from MST3K’s final season.

Extra features on this residence include MST3K Video Jukebox Volume 2, Fresh Theatrical Trailers (for all except “Ring of Anxiety”), a “Tormented” Reunion (with Bert I. Gordon, Susan Gordon and Joe Turkel) and the MST Hour “Jack Perkins” Wraps for “Tormented” featuring Mike Nelson as “Jack Perkins”.

Given the fact that some of these MST3K DVD sets go out of print rather snappy due to issues with rights over the films old-fashioned in the demonstrate, I’d recommend buying this place legal away. Don’t miss these four ample episodes. Movie heed!

If history has taught us anything it is this, you can’t depend on the recent MST3K sets to be available for long, so if you’re involved it’s best to fetch them while you can. Case in point, Mystery Science Theater 3000 volume 10… available for hold for about three months and then it was suddenly pulled from the shelves in a calm rob with no replacements ever sent out. I myself had to catch Volume 10 off of eBay (at a hefty premium at that) because I waited too long thinking it was a retract I could establish off for a diminutive bit. How sinister I was. The apt of the record is, when Volume 11 comes out, (as well as volumes 12, 13, 14 and so on), it’s better to hedge your bets and glean it as swiftly as possible before they vanish all too soon.

Oh, and my reason for giving Volume 11 here a 5-Star rating ogle unseen… that’s impartial me being the staunch Mistie fan-boy that I am. =^)

Although The Adventures of Trace Twain is a Claymation extravaganza, it shouldn’t be idea of as honest kids’ fare–in fact, grand of the subject matter is not only knowing on an adult level but also a bit black. The premise is that three youngsters–Tom, Huck and Becky from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer–stow away on a astounding lighter-than-air craft piloted by Stamp Twain, who was born during a year when Halley’s Comet visited our atmosphere and is trying to join up with it during one of its return visits. As he puts it, the Lord notorious that those two freaks of nature came in together, and they should go out together. Along the method, the kids open to inquire of the outcome of the scamper and dwelling to hijack the ship. They also encounter several of Twain’s short stories that are dramatized as subplots, a couple of which demolish up revealing crucial aspects of Twain’s absorb character. The Clamation effects are a knockout, highly imaginative, and the location has more substance than you might assume on first approaching it. You might want to opinion it with your youngest children, since there are some potentially ghastly considerations of mortality. Overall, however, most viewers should gather it highly intelligent.

I remember this movie from when I was a child. With the advent of DVD I scrambled to acquire every movie that I recalled fondly, only to be let down. Everything that I found to be stout when I was 10, I found unpleasant now that I am 30.

Thankfully, it was and better than I remember.

The Adam and Eve sequence rings funnier now at 30 than when I was 10. The animation itself is enough to blow you away, but the fact that it is quiet a very intriguing movie, story-wise, after all these years says a lot about this film.

Great for kids and parents.

JUDGMENT CALL:

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by “RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN”. Mainly because you have legendary actress Betty Davis and Christopher Lee (known for his work in the past with the Vampire and Fu Manchu films and presently with his work as Count Dooku in the “Star Wars” films) . But it was mammoth to study them out of their typical film element and playing a silly duo, Letha obsessed with money and Victor obsessed with the power and prestige he can earn from utilizing Tony for his bear hooked means.

But many people wanted a sequel and this time, the series would managed to remove an action film with an a accelerate scene and even more special features than the first film. Definitely something you wouldn’t imagine seeing in a family film but John Hough wanted to fabricate distinct the film was different from the first and if he could, perform it even better.

One thing that I liked was that both Tony and Tina are nearly at the same level in their powers. In the first film, it seemed like the only plan Tony could exercise his powers was playing a harmonica. But joyful they didn’t do that for this film.

I enjoyed the first film for its cat and mouse type of storyline, it was a pure film that is fun for the family and kids. With “RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN”, because more special effects were mature and more action scenes, it was bright to look both Tony and Tia separated but most of all, watching them go against each other utilizing their supernatural abilities.

Speaking of special effects, the first film utilized a cat and a gain. “RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN” utilized Albert the goat and it’s wonderful how trainers were able to find a goat to prance through the middle on top of several cars. Very impressive.

Now, for those who gain the 2003 DVD release of “RETURN TO WITCH MOUNTAIN”, you may not need this DVD because there really is no major addition in terms of special features but for those who are looking forward to watching Dwayne Johnson in “Speed TO WITCH MOUNTAIN” in 2009 and have never watched the unique films or its been too long since you have last seen it, then definitely lift up both classic Witch Mountain films. They’re both fun and savory in their beget separate arrangement.

As for “Run TO WITCH MOUNTAIN”, both “Elope TO WITCH MOUNTAIN” and “RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN” both approach with a free stamp coupon (attached to the slipcase mask) to download a certificate (heed) in order to witness the latest film at a participating theater for free.

Overall, “RETURN TO WITCH MOUNTAIN” is a fun and palatable film and despite being nearly 35 years traditional, it’s a film that families can notice with their children now and peaceful be entertained.

Definitely a Disney classic worth having in your DVD library.

This is the 1978 sequel to Disney’s 1975 science-fiction-adventure movie, Rush to Witch Mountain Special Edition. In the first movie, we met Tony and Tia Malone, two orphans with amazing abilities, like telepathy and telekinesis. It turned out that the siblings were aliens, whose spaceship had crashed, but they are reunited, by the slay of the movie, with their uncle.

In the sequel, Tony and Tia are brought to Pasadena so that they can catch a chance to peep how people live on Earth. This goes badly sparkling fleet, thanks to an faulty scientist, who is experimenting with a mind control diagram when he sees Tony make one of his improbable acts, and decides he can became even more illustrious if he can control Tony’s mind. The bad scientist’s wealthy patroness sees Tony as a potential goldmine.

Meanwhile, Tia loses contact with Tony, visually and telepathically, and tries to gain him. She is helped by a street-gang of boys who are nice but not nearly as tough and mean as they want people to hold they are. She does not procure noteworthy success and ends up pitted against her mind-controlled brother. Along the blueprint, a big-hearted but inept truancy officer and a goat manage to assist the alien siblings survive and try to win each other.

The first Witch Mountain movie featured fascinating child actors, an though-provoking premise, and some action, but obsolete dialogue and unimpressive special effects. Three years later, after the world had seen the startling spectacle of the first Star Wars movie, the sequel not only showed no improvement, but I seek it as a weaker movie than its predecessor. Why?

In the first film, Kim Richards (as Tia) and Ike Eisenmann (as Tony) sounded like they were reading lines read by someone who had never spoken with a child. In the sequel, Ike Eisenmann fares somewhat better, sounding a bit more natural, but Kim Richards has line after line of “Who the heck wrote that?!” lines. The gang of boys who assist her also work off a bad script, although Christian Juttner (as Dazzler) manages to overcome his lines to advance off okay.

To accompany the child-actors, we have a trio of villains, with two of the roles played by accomplished actors. Christopher Lee portrays Victor, the sinful scientist crooked on academic fame and glory through ruthless research. Bette Davis portrays Letha, Victor’s not-very-bright but very greedy patroness, out to salvage rich on Victor’s research, at the expense of Tony. Both Mr. Lee and Ms. Davis are given lines to lisp that are exactly what you would question their characters to say. Anthony James, Letha’s nephew and Victor’s inept flunkie.

Given the level reached by special effects when this movie was made, the effects in Return From Witch Mountain are disappointing. In the bonus features, they elaborate how they mature strings and cranes to do the telekinesis and levitation effects. While you do not peek any of the strings or cranes, I consider that it is determined that process in enact included them. The levitation in no contrivance resembles flight or any natural movement. The levitation effects in the Harry Potter films were definitely better.

The film also has a credibility insist at times. Suspending disbelief regarding aliens with paranormal abilities is one thing, but it is another thing altogether to ask that a flying saucer could waft in and out of the Rose Bowl, twice, with no one seeing it. And, there is a scene, early in the movie, where Tony displays his telekinetic powers on a public street, and there is no one around, except the two villains, to peep the act. Plus, no one is there to scrutinize a child being abducted, in immense daylight?

With the sequel, we again have appealing child actors in a movie with an intriguing premise — two alien children with paranormal abilities trying to experience everyday life on Earth — and plenty of action. However, we again also have a script with stilted dialogue for all of the children, or sub-par special effects. This movie objective doesn’t work for me.

Oh, except for Alfred the goat! Alfred does his every scene very smoothly, and gives the most credible performance in the movie.

I received this movie, free from Disney, in exchange for an impartial review.

‘Proof’ is a amazing, spicy movie that keeps you riveted to your seat every moment. It’s not an action film or a serious melodrama or even a rollicking comedy. It’s a engaging, plot-driven tale with one underlying theme: trust. Why would a blind man issue on taking photographs? Why would a woman continue to torment a man she insists she loves? And why would a friend betray someone who puts all his faith in him fair to ‘play blind’? (peep the movie…you’ll know what I mean) . All the performances are astounding, particularly Hugo Weaving as our glum photographer. He gives Martin such depth that while he is generally a wretched Shout, you advance to care about him and want to protect him from the evils around–much like Andy, his young friend. Speaking of Andy, Russell Crowe is savory. A bit of warning though: this ain’t Maximus of “Gladiator”. Crowe is an incredibly diverse actor, ranging from the likable guy-next-door (”Sum of Us”, “Proof”) to imploding/exploding rage (”Quickly and the Dreary”, “LA Confidential”, “The Insider” and “Gladiator”) . If you are looking for the latter, this is not the movie for you. You’ll be bored and wonder if the body from the “rage” flicks were unbiased creative lighting (no…..he unprejudiced pumped up for “Romper Stomper” and never bulked down) . But if you want to inspect Crowe smile and giggle uncontrollably, check this out. Overall, it’s a though-provoking, laughable yet thought-provoking film that makes you consider about what “proof” we all need in our lives.

The thing about a simply made movie with a well-delivered message is that it will outlast any present-day film that reflects the glamour, glitz and special effects that today’s audience seems to crave. And “Proof” will continue to have its bear against any film to reach. It is simply titanic acting by three talented actors. Weaving commands respect from the audience for blind Martin, rather than pity. His character demonstrates how the a youthful interpretation of an event can shape a person’s entire outlook on life. Picot’s character Celia plays the desperation of a woman seeking intimacy to the hilt. Andy, played by Crowe, is Martin’s light on the path to truth. And for once, Crowe doesn’t “out act” his peers, making this a large ensemble fragment that will always be relevant, no matter what era of movie making we pass through.
